Today's review is about this, what I call, a beauty jack-of-all-trades.
To preface, my sister was having some skin issues leaving her with cracked skin, so I took on the mission of finding a good moisturizing product with wound-healing properties for her; so when I found this tub of Calendula (Marigold) pomade, I didn't think twice! In pharmacy school, I learned the flower's skin-healing properties and how its infusion heals wounds, so the pomade immediately fit the criteria—not to mention its affordable price, especially for the amount of product you get for that price.
I ended up trying it out and was enticed to get my own. I'm glad I did because it quickly became my all-in-one beauty product that now sits on my desk for easy access at all times. As someone who washes their hands a lot, I always make sure to moisturize after each wash and if I'm feeling a bit fancy or when I'm in the colder months, I make sure to follow up with a thin layer of the pomade to seal the moisturizer and keep my hands soft for longer. I found this trick to be transferrable to my body too; after the shower, I use a thin body lotion, and sometimes, on areas I want to keep extra moisturized, I follow up with some of this pomade to lock in the moisture. And in the colder months, I do the classic feet exfoliation followed by moisturizer, pomade, and socks overnight beauty routine. Surprisingly, the pomade doesn't leave a sticky feeling or linger for too long (unless you use a lot of it), unlike products like Vaseline; I'm unsure how Vaseline is like now, but I remember that this was one of the things that put me off using it for years and why I was skeptical about using this pomade at first.
I don't know about you, but I've been keeping up with beauty trends for a while and—lucky for me—slugging became a thing. You guessed it, I use this pomade for slugging at night, but as an acne-prone gal, I avoid my cheeks (where I get most of my pimples) and only use a thin layer on top of my eye cream and around my mouth, sometimes on my neck too to avoid wrinkles. But I only do it sparingly and don't use a lot of product, and so far so good!
The other day, I couldn't find my lip balms. I usually have some with color and other ones for healing and to use overnight, etc. But I couldn't remember where I put the night ones. I looked around and thought maybe I could use this pomade over my lips and give it a try since it already has healing properties—I tend to get chapped lips often—and it worked! So, sometimes I use it after exfoliating my lips to make sure they're soft before I use any lipstick; it gets absorbed easily and leaves the lips a lot softer than before. It's not groundbreaking, but I find that my lips don't return to being dry after, something that I've noticed happens with some lip balms.
Okay, so there's a little confession I'll make for the sake of the reader now. As you know, any beauty junkie probably experiments with different ways to use their beauty products, I know I do—more often than necessary, I'll tell you that. So, I found that in the summer, I tend to get some flyaways around the front bit of my hair. After some research, I learned that pomades can be helpful. I didn't have hair pomade around, so I thought this would do. And actually, it got the job done! It's not a hair product though so I would only use a very small amount on my fingers just to get those pesky flyaways to smooth down.
The product smells a bit uninteresting to me, especially considering how amazing balea's products usually smell, but not bad—some might actually like the scent. It has a thick consistency with a stark yellow color, but if used in thin layers, it can feel almost weightless. The color doesn't transfer to the skin, you can consider it transparent. It keeps the skin softer than most creams do and sometimes I use it around my nails to soften my cuticles. Generally, it is a great product with an enticing price. I would definitely repurchase it, but I don't think I'll have to any time soon—a little goes a very long way with this product, it's insane. It's also important to note that this product is vegan.
